Three ethnographic units meet in the region of Zlín – peculiar Wallachia, hospitable Slovácko and bountiful Haná. On a seemingly small area you will be able to visit a spa, mountains or wine region. You will discover the remains of the Great Moravian Empire and a number of valuable historical buildings, including the unique Baťa functionalist architecture.

Tips of our Infocenter

Valašsko

Forested mountain ridges and deep valleys, green hills, old log cottages, folk traditions and traditional cuisine – this is Valašsko. It includes part of the Beskydy Mountains, Vsetín Hills, Soláò and the Javorníky ridge with beautiful views, wooden churches, lookout towers and a well-known open-air museum.

ZLÍN (25 km) – city with unique functionalist architecture

Zlín is an important industrial, commercial and cultural centre of East Moravia. The regional city gained its unique functionalist appearance thanks to the long-time activities of the shoemaker company called Baťa. Today there are various institutions located in the original shoemaker's buildings. Reconstructed factory premises provide a refuge to a museum called 14/15 Baťa Institute. Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín, Museum of South-eastern Moravia and Shoemaker's Museum are to be found at the old factory buildings. Local expositions present the typical topics of the Zlín region: shoemaking, animated and trick films of Karel Zeman and Hermína Týrlová or travellers Zikmund and Hanzelka. The Zlín skyscraper, building No. 21, is a real tourist attraction of the city. Sightseeing terrace on the 16th floor offers a unique view of Zlín city and its surroundings. Visitors can have some refreshment at a cosy café located on the same floor.

Slovácko

Slovácko is a region full of traditions, monuments, folklore, wines and traditional delicacies. You will find vineyards and wine cellars near almost every village in Slovácko. Slovácko has three Moravian wine regions – Slovácko, Velké Pavlovice and Mikulov. The whole region of Slovácko is interlaced with nature trails dedicated to winery. The area is renowned for its numerous winemaking events, vintage, wine tasting, or a festive mountain break.

VLČNOV (20 km) – Ride of Kings

The festivities in Vlčnov with the traditional Ride of Kings listed on the UNESCO's World Immaterial Cultural Heritage List belong to the most visited festivals in the Czech Republic. The young boys ride the horses decorated with ribbons through the village and recite ancient verses to celebrate their king. Rich folklore program and demonstrations of the traditions and customs of Moravian Slovácko accompany the festival.

Haná

Haná – a picturesque plain landscape of vast fertile fields and protected meadow forests – lies in the heart of Moravia. It is remarkable for its pleasant climate, UNESCO heritage monuments, regional delicacies, folklore with richly decorated costumes and a very peculiar dialect.

KROMĚŘÍŽ (52 km) – Athens of Haná

Kroměříž is also called "Athens of Haná" for its unique set of architectural monuments and charming gardens. This Baroque city was included to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999. Bishop Bruno of Šumburk founded the town and his tomb can be found in the church of St. Moric in the city centre.
Kroměříž is interesting for its archbishop's castle with gorgeously decorated halls and a castle gallery. The beauty of the city is underlined by the gardens of Kroměříž and English park with exotic woods. Archbishop's wine cellars are of a big importance for Kroměříž, original mass wines are produced here.
